Sam reviews: Guardians of the Galaxy

So, I'm back, hello the single person that noticed my absence, and welcome to my Guardians of the Galaxy review! Once again, this wont be as entertaining as when I get all angry like in the Origins Wolverine review, but hey, I feel the need to entertain the about two nerds who actually read this. So, first off, I really like the Guardians of the Galaxy just because they are so weird and obscure. I was slightly disappointed by the lack of Iron Man, Mantis or any of the other heroes that have joined over the years, but thought the cast of the team was still great (They have Rocket. That's all I care about.) So, that was a tiny bit disappointing, but as soon as I started to watch it, I no longer cared. The first scene really sets the tone for the movie and shows that it is basically just meant to be fun to watch. Guardians of the Galaxy is a great example of what more movies should be doing, recently there have been more and more movies taking themselves really seriously and that can sometimes go really well, (see X-Men: Days Of Future Past) but also colossally fail (see Thor: The Dark World) and GotG was just a breath of fresh air.  Some movies I really like I can understand how some wouldn't, but this film is genuinely amazing and I'm not sure that anyone could truly dislike it. So, I'm going to review the story a bit now so... yknow... SPOILER ALERT. So, the story is straight up and simple. The films starts with us watching our hero (Peter Quil) as a child, and gives us some information onto how he got off of earth. This is simple to understand and gives us a lot of information, which is good. We then see him as an adult, raiding what seems like an abandoned city for an infinity stone. This really sets the mood for the film, why? because its filled with dancing and mindless action. Now don't get me wrong, I think the story is good, but it isn't very complex. Once again, that isn't a bad thing and I liked it, but it made the film more fun over thinking which I am absolutely fine with. So, he dances for a bit, stuff blows up, its really awesome. Then, we go through a bit where all of the different guardians are introduced. Considering how different characters the are, this is really well done. I wont go into massive detail on the rest of the film because I'm starting to bore myself, but I can only say it was a really great movie. Chris Pratt was really good as Star-Lord and I cant wait for him appearing next to Iron Man, as I think that could be possibly the best addition to the avengers there could be. I mean, who wouldn't want to see Star Lord and Iron Man next to one another kicking butt? Wait, I haven't even mentioned the soundtrack yet. Oh. My. God. I would like to point out I bought it as soon as I got home after watching it (I like 80's music, don't ask why) But I think it was literally the best soundtrack I have ever heard and loved the inclusion of all of the 80's references and music. So, basically, see this movie. You have to. It now sits on the spot of favourite movie along with X-men DOFP, Marvel films just keep getting better. DC... well that's another story, but I'll save that for another blog post.
Until next time Nerds.
Sam.
